Steamed Ginger Lemongrass Mussels + Video

Steamed Ginger Lemongrass Mussels are an amazing appetizer or entrée for a special occasion.

The flavors of ginger & lemongrass will dazzle your taste buds & take you on a journey to Asia, at least during your feast.

Steamed Ginger Lemongrass Mussels:

In this recipe, I used a white wine from Jackson-Triggs – their Pinot Grigio.

However, you could use sake, coconut rum, lychee liqueur, vodka…use your imagination.

Type: Seafood Recipe

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 5 – 7 minutes
Yield: 3 – 4 servings

Instructions:

  1. Scrub mussels under cool water & de-beard, if necessary.
  2. Preheat a large frying pan with coconut oil & butter, on medium-low to medium heat.
  3. Finely slice mushrooms & sautée, until softened, adding bay leaf, torn citrus leaves & lemongrass leaves, cut into segments.
  4. Add red chili flakes, freshly cracked black pepper & freshly grated ginger, and continue sautéing.
  5. Once softened, add chicken broth & white wine, and bring up to a simmer for 3 – 5 minutes, stirring to combine ingredients.
  6. How to Steam Ginger Lemongrass Mussels - cookingwithkimberly.comRight before adding mussels, add lime zest & juice from 2 limes, and stir through to combine.
  7. Add mussels, cover with a lid & shake to coat mussels with flavors.
  8. Steam mussels, until they open.
    • Note: Discard any mussels that do not open, or are cracked.
  9. Before serving, finely mince cilantro to sprinkle on top & freshly squeeze the juice of 1 lime over top.
  10. Serve immediately with lime wedges.
