Kurious & Knosey

There are times (yes, believe it or not) when my dogs have breath that’s, well, not that fresh. These are tasty, healthy and will freshen their breath too.

Plus, you’ll know exactly what went into them to ease your mind that your dogs are eating real food that’s good for them.

I love my dogs so much and I’m always baking them special, little treats. You should see their faces light up – they just know that what I’m doing is for them. So cute!

Mushroom Week on Cooking with Kimberly!

October 27, 2009 by Kimberly · 4 Comments

Cultivated Mushroom Poster: HMy favorite “vegetable” (well, it’s really a fungus, but whatever…LOL) is the mushroom!

It was understood as I grew up that mushrooms were tasty, yes, but they didn’t have much nutritional benefits other than a bit of fiber and lots of water.

Until last year, this is what I thought. However, mushrooms are chock full of all kinds of special nutrients, vitamins and minerals that can only be found in mushrooms!

In fact, mushrooms are especially healthy for your immune system. Try making a creamy mushroom soup if you’re sick, instead of or in addition to your favorite chicken soup!

The thing is, just until recent years, we were pretty much stuck with only being able to access white button mushrooms at the store. These are probably the least nutritious mushrooms there are that are edible.

Nowadays, you can easily find shiitake, oyster, kind oyster, enoki, crimini and portabello mushrooms to mention a few…

Manuka Honey’s Not Just For Baking Anymore!

January 21, 2009 by Kimberly · 3 Comments

honeyI know many of us bake with Manuka honey, which comes from bees that harvest their pollen from Manuka bushes in New Zealand.

It has a richer, more floral and earthy aroma and flavor, which gives it a more specialized taste than “regular” honey you get in your grocery store, like Billy Bee brand, for instance.

I use it in my tea, on toast with peanut butter!

It’s great for cooking with on chicken or in sauces.

Manuka honey’s a very versatile food, but it’s not “just” for baking anymore!

Try honey in your cosmetics and beauty products. That’s right…

Honey is not only good for your insides, it’s good for your outsides too!

I’ve been doing a lot of looking around and I’ve been noticing, more and more, that Manuka Honey is being added to everything from skin cream, to face wash, shampoo & conditioners. Unbelievable!

honeybeeIt’s chocked full of essential amino acids and truly one of nature’s precious gifts, as it has helped people externally with many problems such as ulcers, wounds, scar healing, MRSA and internally with problems like stomach ulcers, gastritis, heartburn, IBS.

It’s found to be antibacterial! Why? Because it has a “slow release” hydrogen peroxide effect. In fact, Manuka honey is the only honey they test for such a thing called the UMF or “Unique Manuka Factor” that determines it’s antibacterial activity.

I’ve Heard of Eating Honey, But Bee Pollen?

August 8, 2008 by Kimberly · 1 Comment

Bee products are some of thee most healthy things you can eat!

Honey is still a sugar, yes, but it is better for you than eating refined sugar, as it has trace amounts of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, not to mention it tastes so much better.

Honey is appropriate to cook and bake with, but when it comes to bee pollen, it is not recommended due to the destruction of essential enzymes caused by excessive heat.

However, you can eat it raw, without cooking it, and it even tastes good too!

Why is bee pollen good for you? Well, it contains:

  1. All essential amino acids
  2. Full spectrum of vitamins especially vitamins B12 and E; and significant amounts of B1, B2, B3, B5, C, and vitamin D
  3. Various minerals including calcium, manganese, phosphorous, iron, sodium, potassium, aluminium, magnesium and copper, trace elements and enzymes (including antioxidants), and co-enzymes, pigments, xanthophylls, carotenes, and sterols, phytosterols, lignans (dibenzyl butanes) isoflavones and flavonoids
  4. Hormone precursors (which stimulate hormone production and help anti-aging)
  5. Carbohydrates and fatty acids

Wow, Right?

Most often people take it as a supplement to their diet in capsule form, mainly because I don’t think most people would know what to do with bee pollen in the kitchen. By the way, sprinkle it on cereals, yogurt, salads, or mix it in with drinks, smoothies, juices…So many ways to enjoy it raw!

I have found a really reliable source from JOEBEES, which provides all-natural, free-range bee pollen as a nutritious solution for a fast-paced world.

Joe’s capsules provide “total nutrition” to support every cell in your body.

Why? Because your body responds to the all-natural ingredients listed above that are found in bee pollen – ingredients that are missing from your diet yet are necessary for living a long and healthy life.

Okay, so it’s good for me…What will it do for me?

Bee pollen in your diet will increase your energy, strength, immune system, give you better sleep, and more stamina!

Want proof? Check out Joe’s story and see why he is a bee pollen fanatic, and why he wanted to provide everyone the opportunity to improve their health and well being!

If you’re not sold already on the benefits of bee pollen in your diet, try Joe’s special trial offer that I found on their site!

The Benefits of Fresh Fruit Juices

January 14, 2008 by Kimberly · 6 Comments

The best way to consume fruit is raw, with its skin or with the skin peeled off on an empty stomach or 20 minutes before other meals. If you’re not such a fruit-eater and want to have more from the good stuff, the best way to start eating fruit is to squeeze fruit juices. In this way you can get used to fruit and after drinking juices for a while you’ll see that your appetite to have raw fruits will increase.

Fruit makes you feel better – Eating much fruit can have a mysterious healing effect on human beings. Even better is to drink a lot of freshly squeezed fruit drinks on a regular basis. It will take approximately 30 days until you start to notice the effects.

Ethical reasons to eat fruit – Fruit doesn’t have to be killed and slaughtered before you can eat it. The fruits are just hanging there waiting to be picked by you!

Fruit is the most Read more
