How to Make Oysters on the Half Shell

Whether you’re looking for a romantic evening, or you’re in a celebratory mood, Oysters on the Half Shell are the perfect, tasty tidbits to offer up.

How to Make Oysters on the Half Shell:

Raw OystersPurchase the freshest oysters in the shell that you are able to, and as close to the time of serving as possible.

Type: Appetizer Recipe

Serve with: cocktail sauce, lemon wedges, horseradish, hot sauce & vodka
Prep Time: 25 min
Serves: 6 people with 6 oysters/serving; 36-40 oysters

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Scrub & chill oysters well.
  2. Open just prior to serving by using a shucking knife, pulling off the beard, if there is one, and leaving the oyster loose on the shell.
  3. Place oysters back in the half shell, on crushed ice on serving plates or a large serving platter.
  4. Fill small containers in the center with cocktail sauce, lemon wedges, grated horseradish and brown, buttered bread.
