How to Make Oysters on the Half Shell:
Purchase the freshest oysters in the shell that you are able to, and as close to the time of serving as possible.
Type: Appetizer Recipe
Serve with: cocktail sauce, lemon wedges, horseradish, hot sauce & vodka
Prep Time: 25 min
Serves: 6 people with 6 oysters/serving; 36-40 oysters
Ingredients:
- 36 – 40 fresh oysters
- 6 cups crushed ice
Instructions:
- Scrub & chill oysters well.
- Open just prior to serving by using a shucking knife, pulling off the beard, if there is one, and leaving the oyster loose on the shell.
- Place oysters back in the half shell, on crushed ice on serving plates or a large serving platter.
- Fill small containers in the center with cocktail sauce, lemon wedges, grated horseradish and brown, buttered bread.
