Instructions:

  1. Calphalon 5qt Nonstick Simply Traditional Saute Pan - shop.cookingwithkimberly.comIn a large, hot saute pan, melt bacon fat and olive oil.
  2. Add cabbage into saute pan. It may seem like way too much cabbage, but it will wilt as it cooks and you will have just enough for 4 persons.
  3. Season with smoked sea salt, pepper, sweet paprika powder, and hot smoked paprika powder.
  4. Cook cabbage on medium high heat until the cabbage has softened, stirring frequently, so it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. If needed, you can add a bit of water to prevent sticking.
  5. How to Cook Southern Style Fried Cabbage - cookingwithkimberly.comWhen cabbage has softened to the point that it is as tender as you like it, tasting it from time to time, remove from heat – about 20 – 30 min.
  6. Add a pat of butter or a bit more, so the cabbage has a nice gloss. Depending on how old the cabbage is, it might need a sprinkling of sugar on it to combat any strong flavor that remains. You could add half of a chopped apple, if you don’t use sugar. Stir through and return to heat for a few minutes.
  7. Serve and enjoy!
