It is so perfectly formed, without blemish and you can tell it is fresh from the farm. The outside has good coloring, it’s smooth and the stem is still green, indicating how fresh it is.

We also like to toast the seeds – just toss them with a bit of olive oil, salt and roast in the oven for a short period of time until they are golden brown. They make a lovely, healthy snack.
I feel good knowing that this squash is Ontario grown and that Harvest Barn Country Markets endeavor, whenever possible, to offer produce that comes from within 100 miles of their two locations – one in Niagara-on-the-Lake and the other in St. Catharines, Ontario. You can find them online:
When you purchase Ontario grown produce, it will be super fresh, will travel a shorter distance to reach you so it will be less likely to have blemishes or bruises, and best of all, you will be supporting our local farmers, so they can continue to grow the crops that provide food for our tables. Another benefit is that the carbon footprint associated with this food will be reduced.
