We are usually all “turkeyed” out come Easter, so we go in a different direction with Holiday Ham from Heaven…
How to Cook Retro Holiday Ham from Heaven:
Though you might think it’s unconventional, this is my Grandmother’s method of preparing a Holiday ham. It is delicious beyond measure served hot, and oh-so-good served cold for a picnic or buffet…You’ll wake up craving ham sandwiches during the night! Kimberly Turner
Type: Entrée Recipe
Serve with: a Holiday feast
Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 30 min + 20-30 min/lb of ham + 20 min cooling time
Ingredients:
- 3/4 stock pot water
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 can ginger ale
- 1 ham – however large you require
- brown sugar – enough to rub all sides of ham
- whole cloves – enough to stud ham every 1 inch
- maraschino cherries – enough to scatter on ham; these will stud pineapple slices
- pineapple slices – enough to cover ham
Instructions:
- Regardless of whether you are using a processed or unprocessed ham, we use the same method.
- Place ham into a large stock pot of water that has been combined with bay leaf, peppercorns, onion and ginger ale.
- Bring to a boil and simmer for 20-30 min/lb of ham. * Tip: Regardless of how long it’s been boiling, the internal temperature needs to measure 165 degrees F with a meat thermometer.
- Partly cool the ham in the water, drain and remove the fatty skin. * Tip: We love it just like this – sliced and arranged on a platter, but for extra special occasions, we continue preparation.
- Place ham on a roasting platter and rub all sides and top with brown sugar.
- Place maraschino cherries and pineapple slices all over ham using toothpicks.
- Roast ham uncovered at 325 degrees F for 30 min, frequently basting with some pineapple juice mixed with brown sugar. * Tip: Basting with pineapple juice and brown sugar will make the ham nice & shiny, which will be perfect for a beautiful display.
- Slice ham and serve accentuating cherries and pineapple slices. * Tip: Serve extra basting liquid in a gravy boat.
This is so gorgeous when served and tastes even better…Make sure you plan accordingly, so that you will have leftovers of your Holiday Ham from Heaven.

I love my ham this way too!
I’m glad to see other people use ginger ale too on their ham!

Absolutely!
In fact, we’ve even used Coca-Cola and it was really great that way too…
