My parents used to can hot cherry peppers like this, and when it was time to use them, my father would stuff them with anchovies with a little ball of mozzarella cheese or feta to top each one. This was one of my Dad’s favorite snacks, which he typically liked to eat with crisp potato chips. They make a very attractive and delicious appetizer.

I plan on canning these Ontario hot cherry peppers.

I especially appreciate the fact that these peppers are Ontario grown. At Harvest Barn Country Markets, they make an effort to bring in fresh produce and other food products from within a 100 mile radius of their two locations.

This means that the fresh produce can ripen on the plant, before harvesting, and it arrives on the Harvest Barn shelves, very quickly, and super fresh – sometimes even on the same day it was picked. So, whatever you choose is still packed with optimum flavor, unblemished and unbruised.

Transporting produce long distances can cause damage to produce from all the bumping and shaking during transit. Often the produce is picked and packed green, and is expected to ripen in transit or on the shelf, where you might find it to be flavorless, wilting and lacking moisture.
