The season for harvesting Ontario Golden Delicious Apples has come, and you should see the fantastic beauties at Harvest Barn Country Markets.
These locally grown, golden delicious apples are at the perfect stage of ripeness now, all juicy and crunchy and d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s.
They are ready for making mouthwatering pies, to pack in your childrens’ lunches, to bake – smothered in brown sugar and marshmallows, making tasty juice, and apple moos – to name a few uses for this fabulous fruit.

These beautiful, greenish-yellow and speckled Ontario golden delicious apples, with rosy-pink cheeks, come from my local Harvest Barn Country Market in Niagara-on-the-Lake. They have another Harvest Barn Country Market in St. Catharines, Ontario, and can be found online:
At this time of year, the air is filled with the aromas of ripe, Niagara grown apples, that speak to you of delicious, hot cider, apple pies, as well as all the fantastic dishes you can prepare with these luscious globes of apple. The apples I have are super-fresh, crisp and sweet, with no bruising or damage, so I plan to be busy baking and cooking with them for the next few weeks.
Golden delicious apples keep well in a cool area like a fruit cellar, or a cool garage. A bushel will probably keep here for 6 – 8 weeks, and this is the best time to stock up, when they are at their peak.
Harvest Barn Country Markets try, as much as possible, to bring in fresh produce and some of their other products, from within 100 miles of their locations. Thus, they are able to stock up on produce of optimum freshness and ripeness, since it doesn’t have to travel far to reach their markets, and it enables Harvest Barn to support our local farmers, who need all the support that we Ontarians can offer. So, they are able to maintain their farms, continue to provide us with the fruits of their harvests and support their demanding farming lifestyle.
