My Foodie Story:

I have been a foodie all my life, since as far back as I can remember. I was particular about food, but would try anything my mother or father asked me to.

I was the kid who loved spinach, Brussell sprouts, and escargots because I wasn’t afraid to try it. I appreciated good food and certainly knew the difference between great homemade food, and fast food or processed food.

My mother, keeping me in the kitchen with her from the time I was young, helped me a lot. She would let me measure ingredients or add them for her as she mixed & cooked. It was so much fun, and mom knew how to make any recipe into a kid friendly recipe.

Even if I had never performed something in the kitchen before, once I learned how to cook, I can still remember how my mom used to do it.

Mom also kept me in the garden with her. I learned how to plant seeds, water & take care of the plants, as well as harvest fruit & vegetables we grew ourselves. It was a real sense of accomplishment as a child.

However, I wasn’t really into cooking until it was a necessity, moving to Australia for a year to play softball at 18 years of age. I knew right away, it wasn’t my mother’s cooking…

So, my mom & I would talk on the phone all the time, her often teaching me as best she could how she does things in the kitchen.

Then, I went to university in Texas, then Louisiana, then Iowa. I certainly was a foodie & home chef at this point. Friends & fellow athletes would come by our house for dinners, and get-togethers.

Hosting American Thanksgiving for fellow international athletes like myself, when everyone else on campus goes home, as well as my own Canadian Thanksgiving for any fellow Canadians, to celebrating conference championships with different teams, we had a great time, cooking indoors or outdoors on the grill.

From tailgating on football days, or a PlayStation tournament at our place, food was abundant.

I can remember watching hours upon hours of the Food Channel when I was in university. I had never seen that channel before, and it was just a revelation to me…other people that were like me…food-minded!

Well, as shifts in life happened through my 20s & early 30s, it became a necessity for me to work from home. Thinking about the things I love, on the top of that list was cooking.

That’s the day I bought this domain name, CookingWithKimberly.com, and the rest is history.

I’ve been excited to share our own family recipes, as well as other recipes from around the world, food & health information, as well as product reviews & tons of my cooking tutorials in lots of fun Cooking with Kimberly shows.

That’s my story…So, what’s yours?
