Web Chef Review: Ontario Gooseberries at Harvest Barn Country Markets

Ontario Gooseberries are at Harvest Barn Country Markets!

Web Chef Review: Ontario Gooseberries at Harvest Barn Country Markets - cookingwithkimberly.comGooseberries are one of my favorite berries. Actually, I believe they are in the currant family.

My mom used to grow them in her gardens and as a child, I acquired a taste for gooseberries, and looked forward to the picking time for these juicy berries.

My grandmother used make an amazing gooseberry mousse, which we thoroughly enjoyed at her farm table and Mom has made some delicious gooseberry tarts as well. However, I personally enjoy them straight from the bush – fresh and sweet.

I got a box of them from Harvest Barn Country Markets and these plump, tasty, sweet and tangy berries burst in your mouth imparting an amazing flavor to your taste buds.

As usual, I find that these Ontario gooseberries and other produce from Harvest Markets is fresh and delicious and at the proper degree of ripeness for my taste.

One of the best things about these gooseberries are that they are Ontario grown and Harvest Barn Country Markets try, as much as possible, to support farmers and producers within a 100 mile radius of their locations – one in Niagara-on-the-Lake and one in St. Catharines, here in Southern Ontario.

Reducing our carbon footprint as much as we can is important, and I hope you take the time to ascertain if most of your purchases of produce and other items come from a 100 mile radius of your home as well. You don’t have to change your life to accomplish this, just take small steps to adjust your shopping habits. Do something to work toward a 100 mile diet.

As I have said before, a lot of little somethings are better than a whole lot of nothings to keep our planet healthy for ourselves and our children, as well as future generations. The time has come where it is our job to take this matter of greenhouse gases and each of our carbon footprints seriously.
