Web Chef Review: Baker’s Ribs – The Best BBQ in Dallas, TX

Let me tell you a story about Baker’s Ribs!

I just got back from another trip to Dallas, Texas…supposedly the home of BBQ…

Well, I have to tell you, I am a REALLY picky person when it comes to BBQ. If it’s not JUST RIGHT, I can’t and won’t eat it.

I am not a typical BBQ lover. I don’t like “red sauce”, anything vinegary or tomato-flavored in the sauce on my barbecued meat!

To me, real BBQ is how the meat tastes from being smoked, without all the sloppy sauces that are added.

If you can impress me with the meat all by itself, you’ve really got something.

I went to university in Texas, Texas A&M University, and I married a Texan, and until this trip, I had not found what I was looking for in Texas.

My husband attempted many times to find me great BBQ that I would “approve” of…it was getting a little ridiculous and we had almost given up.

On Sunday, he drove me out to Rowlett to try to get me some great BBQ he and his dad found this past month, but to no avail…these little shacks were actually closed.

Baker's Ribs - bakersribs.comAbout to resort to something completely different, I spotted a place out of the corner of my eye that didn’t look like a little “down home” place, but it was really snazzy from the outside, and we turned into the median immediately and tried it out. It was called Baker’s Ribs!

When we exited the car, we were in instant heaven with the fantastic smell that engulfed us…It was the smell of Hickory Smoked BBQ! Oooh!

I don’t like Mesquite BBQ, so they already had a brownie point from me…

We entered the Super Clean restaurant and were greeted by about 8 amazingly friendly people working feverishly behind the counter.

All I wanted…A pulled pork sandwich with no sauce. (I always ask if it is barbecued without sauce.) They told me that they give you sauce on the side, and they don’t bbq with it! Yeahhhh! Brownie Point #2!

I got my pulled pork sandwich and was offered side dishes. Having never liked macaroni and cheese from anywhere but my own home, I had a sneaking suspicion that the mac & cheese I was looking at would be amazing, don’t ask me why…so, I tried it, and had a baked potato.

Kenney ordered sliced barbecued beef and chicken with sides of potato salad, scalloped potatoes and baked beans, of course with Texas toast.

It was Love at First Bite! With my 1st bite of pulled pork sandwich, just smoked BBQ pulled pork on a white hamburger bun, I had just eaten the VERY BEST BBQ I had ever laid my eyes on!

Immediately, I had to sneak a bite of my hubby’s beef to make sure I wasn’t crazy! Wow Wow Wow! Tender, smoky, and sooo delicious! I mean…really!

Ok…now, I figured I’d be a negative critic with the mac & cheese, which actually was the Best mac & cheese outside of my mama’s kitchen! That’s right! I have to give props where they are due!

Next, my hubby made me taste the baked beans, which I am equally fussy about as my bbq…Again, I hate that “red sauce”, sweet brown sugar flavor or vinegary taste on my beans, and what did I get? The best baked beans EVER! I’m NOT kidding either!

I knew I couldn’t possibly like the potato salad, right? Wrong! The best potato salad outside of our home kitchen! Still, so NOT kidding!

To boot, they had just brewed a fresh batch of sweet iced tea! Oh Yeah…Even the server told us that it’s the best sweet tea in Dallas…I can believe that too! I refilled 3 times…LOL!

I’m so excited about this place, I CAN’T wait to eat there again!

Absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, THEE BEST BBQ IN DALLAS, TEXAS IS BAKER’S RIBS in Rowlett! Oh yeah…You’ll love me for this recommendation!

Not only did they have what I told you about, but so much more!

My baked potato was Texas-sized and I couldn’t even get close to eating 1/2 of it, and the scalloped potatoes – you guessed it…Amazing too!

Now, you may not live in Rowlett…heck, you may not even live in Texas…there’s only 1 location outside of Texas and that’s in Minneapolis, but they have 5 locations in Dallas, and 4 more locations around Texas too…Check them out here!

You have not eaten BBQ until you’ve had this BBQ!

    • Hi Jim,

Thanks for commenting! You’re a rib connoisseur, for sure! Thanks for sharing your top 10.

My favorite places besides Baker’s Ribs are the little mom & pop’s places you see pop up on the side of the road in grocery store parking lots all around Dallas – smoking out of BBQ drums & smelling like heaven! I love it when you are surprised by a rogue BBQer!

      Kimberly 🙂
