Shedding Your Winter Baggage

It’s the same thing every year…

You spend the winter in the gym trying to keep in shape, but by the time that summer rolls around, all your clothes seem to have miraculously shrunk just a little bit.

It’s really odd, especially for those clothes that say dry clean only. You’re just about to figure out who is to blame, and then it hits you – somehow you’ve managed to pack on the pounds. Panic!

You could try to run a marathon every day, or start training for the Tour de France, but you know in your heart of hearts that there’s really only one answer. Painful as it is, you need to go on a diet.

It’s amazing once you start to look how many different diets there are out there. You can probably rule out the coffee and watermelonShedding Your Winter Baggage - allpostersimages.com diet (I’m making that up, or at least I think I am – I better go check to see if it’s the latest fad). Other diets seem to have been around forever, but I just can’t believe that piling on the meat and avoiding carbs entirely is the way to go. To be honest, for every diet out there, there seems to be another one that tells you to do entirely the opposite thing. It’s confusing, and the whole thing gives me a bit of a headache.

So then you think to yourself that you need help. What about those diets that are promoted by people like Jennifer Hudson? I took a look on www.healthy-dietplans.com to try to do a bit of comparison, and it seemed like a lot of them wanted to ship you their own prepared meals. I don’t have a problem with this, and it may work for you, but I like to cook my own food. I also worry a bit that if you can’t make healthy food for yourself, the weight’s probably going to go back on in the long run.

To me, the one that seems to make the most sense is Weight Watchers. You don’t have to buy any meals from them, although you can find their food in the supermarket. Instead, they sell you a plan called PointsPlus, which basically gives you a number of food points that you can use in a day. Servings of different types of food cost so many points, and once you’re out of points, you stop eating. It’s a bit more complicated than that, but you get the idea.

The really nice thing about Weight Watchers is that they provide lots of other things that help you to diet and lose weight, including all sorts of tasty low-calorie recipes, health and fitness advice, and stories about other people who successfully lost weight using the program. If you want to get more involved, you can join a local Weight Watchers group and cheer each other on. It’s also a good idea if you can get some friends to come along with you, so be sure to let people know you’re going.

  1. Weight Watchers is one of the most outdated diet plans around. Weight gain is driven by hormones, not calories.

  2. I totally agree with you about wanting to cook your own food! Eating healthy is only fun for me when I can make my meals from scratch.
