PG Tips Tea & Florida Crystals Combine to Make Odd Flavor

Well, I can tell you my story…

When I drink black tea, I almost always only drink PG Tips brand, care of my English nanny from when I was a baby. It’s the BEST black tea in existence to me and the people around me!

I bring PG Tips tea bags with me when I travel, as you never can find them ANYWHERE!!!

So, I buy filtered water at a grocery store and make it at home, where I am staying.

This past visit to Dallas to my father-in-law’s home, this is what I proceeded to do, and my hubby bought me some organic sugar called “Florida Crystals”, which is harvested from all natural and organic 100% sun-sweetened sugar cane in Florida.

Nice, right? Yes, the sugar is very tasty, and has a slight brownish hue, meaning it is less refined or processed than normal white sugar. I’ve used darker sugars before, but not actual brown sugar or golden brown sugar that you’d bake with, in my tea with no problem.

Anyways, the combination of the PG Tips tea and the Florida Crystals sugar actually made a tea that tasted of onions and garlic. NO KIDDING!

I thought I was imagining things, and as I had just got off of some antibiotics, I was thinking that maybe it was playing tricks on my taste buds.

So, I made the tea a few days in a row, until I finally made my husband taste it for me. He told me it tasted of onion-y and garlicky vegetable soup.

I’m glad I wasn’t really being crazy!

DO NOT combine PG Tips tea with Florida Crystals…You’ll ruin a perfectly good cup of English tea!

P.S. I found a fabulous deal on PG Tips brand tea, imported from England. Please do check this tea out. You’ll be glad you did as soon as you taste it. It is called PG Tips because they only use the top two leaves, and a bud, known as the tips, for a great tasting cup of tea. Try it!

  1. Wow – This was the strangest thing ever, KT!

If you didn’t taste it yourself, you may not believe it – it really tasted like onions or vegetable soup or something…So weird!
