National Honey Month is Gonna be Sweet…

HoneyNational Honey Month is here, and it is a much celebrated food.

I believe if I just wrote down the adjectives that describe honey, I would more than cover the entire page.

Created by one of the most complex creatures on God’s Earth, honey comes to us in varying degrees and hues of light amber to hues of brown, and guess what…They are all delicious!

Honey has been used as a sweetener for thousands of years, and boasts hundreds of varieties.

Most honeys are named after the main source of the nectar used in a particular hone, like orange blossom, Acacia, thyme, buckwheat, clover, lavender and many more.

Cookies, cakes and doughs for bread with honey are valued by bakers & chefs alike, as the texture becomes toothsome, and benefits from the brown color. The sweetening power of honey is much greater than sugar.

Not just for desserts, however, honey works wonderfully in savory dishes like in marinades for meat, or as glazes, like with this Apricot Honey Ham Recipe:

Any way you look at it, honey is a true treasure in the kitchen!
