You read that correctly…It’s National Chocolate Covered Insect Day in the good ole’ US of A.
In America, and in the West, most folks have not yet accepted the concept of eating insects in any form. There are few proponents of “eating naturally”, which includes eating insects.
In Asia, Africa and various other countries, there isn’t the repulsion many of us have. In Asian cuisine, it is not only accepted, but considered normal, and a protein source enjoyed by many.
It’s an individual choice whether or not to eat insects. This idea has extended to dipping insects into chocolate, and enjoying them as a dessert choice.
Some of the insects suitable for covering in chocolate are crickets, grub worms, ants (which can also be candied), scorpions, beetle larva & grasshoppers. It is said that beetle larva covered in chocolate taste similar to Kit Kat chocolate bars, and can be ordered by the bag or gift boxed, as you prefer.
If you are adventurous & a chocolate lover, you may decide to take the plunge to give chocolate covered insects a try.
