Five Guys – Restaurant Review

August 4, 2008 by Kimberly · 1 Comment

During my further 3 hours of delay at the Washington Dulles Airport, I succumed to eating a hamburger from the “famous” Five Guys.

Apparently, these are said to be some of the best burgers around, to the point that the girl sitting next to me tells me her boss flies in from New York on his private jet just to get them.

So, I did it…I had a hamburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard and fried onions.

I waited a while, but this would be expected with the hundreds of people on canceled and delayed flights that were trying to get food before all restaurants and shops close in the airport for the night.

I got my burger relatively quickly considering.

It was hot and delicious! You get the flavor of freshly ground beef. Plain and simple…that’s what makes a burger a great burger.

All of the fixins, including sauteed mushrooms, fried onions and all of the usual and regular toppings, are all included for free! Yum! Have it your way…LOL…

My burger came out of the wrapper as a double burger…so, I’m not sure if I got hooked up, or if that’s their plain burger…

It was good…Not my absolute, all-time, fantabulous favorite, but really good, and I would eat one again.

So, if you’re in Terminal A of the Washington Dulles Airport, check out Five Guys burgers!

Famous Famiglia Pizzeria – Restaurant Review

July 29, 2008 by Kimberly · 1 Comment

Okay, you’re at the airport, and you are STARVING…What to do? Find the first restaurant you can that interests you, right?

Well, I picked the Famous Famiglia Pizzeria in Terminal A of the Washington Dulles Airport

I probably should have had the “famous” pizza, but instead felt like pasta…I got penne with tomato sauce and a garden salad…

Well, the penne with sauce was just that…penne with sauce…it was ok…it filled me up…They did give me a good portion for a small order.

The salad was fresh and had beautiful, large slices of Roma tomatoes, radishes, cucumbers, shredded carrot and romaine lettuce. They give you a packaged Italian salad dressing, but the salad was just what I needed.

The next time, if I stop here, I will probably try a piece of pizza or stromboli…probably the stromboli, knowing me…

It was ok…I give it a 3 1/2 stars.

* Be sure to check out the Mayorga Coffee Roasters – Restaurant Review, also in the Washington Dulles Airport.

Mayorga Coffee Roasters – Restaurant Review

July 23, 2008 by Kimberly · 3 Comments

Washington, Dulles Airport – Terminal A:

I am a very picky Chai Latte drinker…as you know from a previous post (William’s Coffee House)…

However, as I was stuck on a delay at the Dulles Airport, I wanted a Chai Latte something fierce.

The only coffee place I saw was the Mayorga Coffee House, and I was still reluctant to try, being so disappointed in the past with subpar chai teas…

Even after all of my questioning, I ordered one, and boy oh boy, was I a happy camper.

It was made with whole milk, and it was creamy, perfectly spicy and delicious.

If ever you are in the Washington Dulles Airport, and are craving your Chai Latte fix, check out the Mayorga coffee House in Terminal A.

You’ll be glad you did!

Turkey Tips for Thanksgiving
By Lance Winslow

Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner is now easy task and I am sure the Harvest of 1641 was no exception for the Plymouth Pilgrim Colony. You think you have your work cut out for you, they had 90 Indians show up and the feast lasted three days. There are many things that you need to know about preparing a large feast even you are only have 9 Indians show up at your house.

You will first need to decide all the side dishes and number of people so you have enough and it is best to error on the side of too much rather than running out. You do not want to get scalped by any of your guests, additionally if they bring some food to the meal such as the Indians did at the Harvest Feast which was essentially the model for the Thanksgiving Holiday, then you need to make sure they do not forget. By the way the Indians brought venison to the first feast.

One of the most important things to remember when cooking a turkey is that frozen turkeys can take up to twenty four or more hours to thaw out. So you really have to have the cooking time, plus the thaw out time figured out correctly. Also if you have some little kids and you are going to put them at a different table, you might consider paper plates. It saves of the wrinkled fingers doing all those dishes and it really does help prevent breakage. Please be thinking about a strategy in serving your Thanksgiving dinner, write it all down and have a plan.

Are You Food Allergy-Sensitive? Tips, Tricks & Recipe Ideas

September 10, 2007 by Kimberly · 4 Comments

John & Lisa Merrill Posters Prints - Fresh Fish at Pike Place Market, Seattle, Washington, USA Art Photographic Print - Artist: John & Lisa Merrill - Poster SizA food allergy is a type of immunologic reaction from the intake of certain food protein. Recent studies show that there are about 12 million Americans, who suffer from food allergies.

Shellfish, eggs, tree nuts, fish and peanuts are considered familiar causes of food allergies, especially for older people. Children usually suffer from food allergies to peanuts, milk and eggs.

Currently, the only cure for people who are allergy-sensitive is to prevent the intake of those foods, which cause them to be allergic. These foods are called “allergens”. To avoid such food allergy attacks, it is imperative that food is carefully prepared for people, who have allergy-sensitivities.

I will cover 3 types of allergy-sensitivity diet: Egg-Free Diet, Nut-Free Diet, and Milk/Dairy-Free Diet
