The 2nd week of October is National Food Bank Week!
Food banks, at one time, were looked down upon as a resource only for the lowest levels of society, much as food kitchens were…
Serving “down & outers,” street people, tramps, lazy people who didn’t have jobs, alcoholics & drug addicts.
How things have changed in this day and age, where unemployment is high and prime jobs are hard to find, and where job security is questionable. Any one of us, at any time, might find that the only way to feed ourselves & our families might be to take advantage of the resources from food banks.
Food banks are struggling to keep their stocks of food at levels where they can meet the needs of those striving to keep their families fed.
At any time, you might find bank tellers, secretaries, the elderly, single parent families, teachers, carpenters & others who have fallen into hard times, at the doors of today’s food banks, looking for help, looking for nutritious food to sustain themselves & their families.
Thank goodness for food banks!
