This is an ancient drink served in Turkey by street vendors, famed to increase breast size…That’s right ladies…That’s what is alleged about it…LOL…It is both sweet and slightly acidic when fermented.
Type: Beverage Recipe
Serve With: cinnamon
Prep Time: ~ 3 days
Cook Time: ~ 20 min
Yield: ~ 8 cups
Ingredients:
- 2 cups bulgur
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- water
- 1 tbsp rose water – optional: this is what makes mine different, although it is a very Turkish ingredient.
Instructions:
- Soak bulgur overnight in plenty of water.
- Add 4 cups of water to bulgur and cook on medium heat, stirring frequently, for approximately 20 min or until wheat doesn’t taste ‘raw’.
- Pass mixture through a sieve to obtain liquid. Let it thoroughly drain through.
- Add sugar and stir until dissolved.
- Tip: Add more water depending upon how thick the mixture is. Add enough to make it an appealing consistency for you to drink.
- Cover and set aside for approximately 3 days, or until bubbles form on top.
- Stir in rose water.
- Serve cold in mugs topped with cinnamon.
- Tip: Keep mixture refrigerated once ready.
Enjoy this boza with a snack like roasted chickpeas – aka leblebi!
