You’ve Never Had a Bagel?
May 28, 2009 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment
The other day, I was actually asked what you put on a bagel, because they had never eaten one before…
WOW! Are you kidding?
If you’ve never had a bagel before, you’re missing out…They’re fabulous!
Think…a savory donut, less cakey, and boiled, not fried, then baked…
They are usually quite healthy…It’s what you put on them that usually isn’t! LOL
Cut it in half to make 2 circles, and toast it lightly, then put creamed cheese on it…Oooh…ahhh!
However, making a Read more

Restaurants and Fun in Branson, Missouri
May 27, 2009 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment
As you know, when I travel, I also think about where we’re going to eat – the FOOD is what’s exciting to me!
So, we’ve been to Columbia and many other parts of Missouri driving through, but were contemplating taking a swing through on our way home to Canada.
We talked about stopping in Branson for some theater and entertainment, but what about the grub?
Firstly, we talked about staying at the Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing – It’s supposed to be beautiful and in the center of all the fun, plus, we can stay with our dogs too.
Then, I Googled a couple restaurants and looked at their reviews to find that the Candlestick Inn has some great food.
It’s under new management now and has some stellar reviews thus far. Highlights: calamari, avocado salad, filet mignon and prime rib, stuffed lobster, crab cakes and tomato based crab soup – those all sound yummy to me!
Apparently, it’s upscale, but well worth the price with a great view (of what, I’m not sure, but it was worthy of a few review comments).
Where I would really love to go is Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Dinner & Show! It sounds like Medieval Times, but Dixie Style – (I love Dolly…LOL)
It had really high ratings for food, value, service and atmosphere…
That way, I can get my entertainment and food together! LOL…Have any of you been there? Let me know by Commenting!
We could also stay at the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel – they take pets too and they have a great looking pool!!!

The Best Frying Pan I’ve Ever Used
May 26, 2009 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment
If you want me to recommend a really good frying pan…I’ll tell you, it has to be:
It is my very favorite non-teflon frying pan. They often come with oven-safe handles and that makes them even more versatile!
They are heavy and coated, but not with teflon. They work awesome in the oven…
I just love my Calphalon frying pans!!!

How to Cook Rice
May 18, 2009 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment
Yes, I know there are instructions on the back of the box you buy to cook your rice…
…But I’m trying to broaden your horizons and trying to keep you from cooking that 5-minute variety of converted rice.
I want you to cook the unadulterated version of this staple food.
There are many times I buy rice, for instance, at an Asian market, and I cannot read the instructions on the back because it’s in a completely different language.
This is where your “rice expertise” sets in – you don’t need instructions.
For the Uncle Ben’s variety, you’ll notice you need 1 part rice to 1 part water, some butter and salt for a basic recipe.
For unconverted rice, you’ll want to double the water – For example: 1 cup rice, 2 cups water.
When using rice that isn’t the 5 minute brands, you’ll want to Read more

Where to Eat on Your Kissimmee Vacation
May 13, 2009 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment
We like to make it out to Florida in the off season…the summer
Not only are there less tourists to deal with, it is often a much cheaper vacation.
We live in Texas half the year, so Florida is not far off of temperature and at least there’s a great beach! LOL…
My mom and my hubby are both fellow food lovers – surprise, surprise, eh? – so, I would bring them on a vacation with me where we can fully enjoy that food culture.
The last time we went to Kissimmee, we ate at an all-you-can-eat lobster restaurant! Seriously – I ate 8 whole lobsters myself, as they’re my favorite food – I don’t know where I put it all! LOL…
I also love to make it out to restaurants where you can get some great foodie tips of your own.
Kobé Japanese Steakhouse in Kissimmee is no exception!
Not only do you get some really stellar food to eat, but you get a fabulous show throughout your meal from your personal chef that grills everything in front of you, juggles and shows you fabulous knife skills too.
I would love to revisit Medieval Times, as that was just a complete blast with the dinner show and the food was great as well.
At SeaWorld, they have a restaurant that has a dinner show and Polynesian Luau that was my very favorite dinner show we went to. Hula dancers, wahini warriors, fire dancers and musicians complete in full costume entertain you the entire night with a completely interactive show and dinner served family style. A stellar time! Get a pina colada for me when you go!
Part of our visit, we had a great resort suite and had a full service kitchen in it, so we bought our own lobsters and seafood to create a marvelous feast for ourselves! Fantastic and that way, you ensure everything is made just how you like it! Personally, I loved having a full kitchen at my disposal on vacation – I love to cook!
I just wanted to share with you a few of the places we enjoyed to eat at in Kissimmee and why.
Now that you’re really hungry and wanting to visit Kissimmee – you’re in luck because Kissimmee is giving away weekend getaways for 2, and week-long vacations for 4! Get over to their website and enter the sweepstakes that will be drawn next on June 1st!!!

New York Flatbreads – Pumpernickel Everything Review
May 11, 2009 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment
I’ve had a few of the flavors from New York Flatbreads before, which are numerous, like Sesame Seed…
I love them. I think they’re very versatile for dips, oysters, chutneys, cheese…the possibilities are endless…LOL
However, I have heard from a few people they think the flatbreads are bland…unexciting…too dry!
The Pumpernickel Everything flavor will knock your socks off, even the skeptics!
I regularly enjoy “everything” bagels and the like, and these flatbreads (or long, crispy crackers for those of you who haven’t seen them before), are no exception.
They’ve got sesame seeds, poppy seeds and Read more

Florida Dreaming for a Foodie Vacation!
When is the best time to go to Florida for a vacation?
Seriously? When isn’t?
Anytime’s a good time for vacationing in Kissimmee – not only is it beautiful in December or July, for a foodie, it’s fabulous all the time!
We went on our honeymoon there years back now, and if we went today, I’d want to bring my mom too!
My mom’s a serious foodie too and would love checking out Emeril’s Orlando restaurant and Emeril’s Tchoup Chop…Emeril Lagasse, that is…
If you’re on my cooking site right now, you’ll probably know him – the guy who says “BAM” & “kick it up a notch”…
We love his twist on Cajun, Creole and French cuisines!
However, I would love to take my mom to Medieval Times in Kissimmee – we went when I was about 5 yrs old when my parents took me to Disney World.
We went a few years back and it was as woderful as I had remembered it! A fabulous show with marvelous horses and peregrine falcons, knights and maidens.
You are served a your section’s wench and you get to wear crowns and the whole thing. Not only that, you don’t get utensils to eat, it’s all hands baby – and lots of beer to boot.
It’s really tasty food too! Just a really fun experience!
We stayed at this great resort on the water for part of our vacation, and the first part of it, we stayed at the Record Motel…
…I know, I know…it sounds like a cheesy, cheap place – but it wasn’t! It was really inexpensive, but quaint, right in the middle of everything in Kissimmee, and extremely clean with a pool!
I highly recommend it, if you’re seriously budgeting.
* Be sure to enter the sweepstakes from Kissimmee! They’re actually giving away 3 fabulous weekend getaways for 2, and 2 week long vacations for 4 around June 1st!
