The Best Cookbook on the Market
June 29, 2008 by Kimberly · 4 Comments
I’ll get right to it…
In my opinion, the Joy of Cooking: The All-Purpose Cookbook is the best cookbook on the market.
Why, you ask?
Because it teaches you how to make EVERYTHING! It has something for everyone and every ethnicity.
Even my husband likes using it!
It teaches you classical techniques, and has “old-school” recipes, and great new ones too.
Get ready to get your hands dirty in the kitchen with this bad-boy!
Whenever I have a bridal shower to go to, I always give the Joy of Cooking, along with other gifts.
This is my mother’s favorite cookbook too…This was the first cookbook she ever received in 1962, and she uses it weekly, sometimes daily, and has never had a recipe fail…from simple to fine-dining…They have never failed!!! It’s an awesome reference tool.
She says it’s the most comprehensive, easy-to-understand cookbook with fabulous results EVERY time!
The first cookbook I ever received was the Joy of Cooking from my mother! It’s the only cookbook you may ever need!

June 22, 2008 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment
I know you’ve all heard people say, “You could fry an egg on the sidewalk, it’s so hot!”
Why not try baking cookies on your dashboard? That’s just what a lady did in New Hampshire on one of these hot, balmy, summer days.
She has figured out that with a temperature outside of 95 degrees, that the internal temperature of her car gets up to 200 degrees. Wow…that’s hot!
Not only that, it will bake her chocolate cookies just fine!
So, if you’re busy, just bake ‘em in the car while you’re at work or shopping…
Just think…you are using solar energy and making out planet Greener at the same time!

The Best BBQ in Dallas, Texas – And Believe Me, I’ve Searched!
June 17, 2008 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment
I just got back from another trip to Dallas, Texas…supposedly the home of BBQ…
Well, I have to tell you, I am a REALLY picky person when it comes to BBQ. If it’s not JUST RIGHT, I can’t and won’t eat it.
I am not a typical BBQ lover. I don’t like “red sauce”, anything vinegary or tomato-flavored in the sauce on my barbecued meat!
To me, real BBQ is how the meat tastes from being smoked, without all the sloppy sauces that are added.
If you can impress me with the meat all by itself, you’ve really got something.
I went to university in Texas, Texas A&M University, and I married a Texan, and until this trip, I had not found what I was looking for in Texas.
My husband attempted many times to find me great BBQ that I would “approve” of…it was getting a little ridiculous and we had almost given up.
On Sunday, he drove me out to Rowlett to try to get me some great BBQ he and his dad found this past month, but to no avail…these little shacks were actually closed.
About to resort to something completely different, I spotted a place out of the corner of my eye that didn’t look like a little “down home” place, but it was really snazzy from the outside, and we turned into the median immediately and tried it out. It was called Baker’s Ribs!
When we exited the car, we were in instant heaven with the fantastic smell that engulfed us…It was the smell of Hickory Smoked BBQ! Oooh!
I don’t like Mesquite BBQ, so they already had a brownie point from me…
We entered the Super Clean restaurant and were greeted by about 8 amazingly friendly people working feverishly behind the counter.
All I wanted…A pulled pork sandwich with no sauce. (I always ask if it is barbecued without sauce.) They told me that they give you sauce on the side, and they don’t bbq with it! Yeahhhh! Brownie Point #2!
I got my pulled pork sandwich and was offered side dishes. Having never liked macaroni and cheese from anywhere but my own home, I had a sneaking suspicion that the mac & cheese I was looking at would be amazing, don’t ask me why…so, I tried it, and had a baked potato.
Kenney ordered sliced barbecued beef and chicken with sides of potato salad, scalloped potatoes and baked beans, of course with Texas toast.
It was Love at First Bite! With my 1st bite of pulled pork sandwich, just smoked BBQ pulled pork on a white hamburger bun, I had just eaten the VERY BEST BBQ I had ever laid my eyes on!
Immediately, I had to sneak a bite of my hubby’s beef to make sure I wasn’t crazy! Wow Wow Wow! Tender, smoky, and sooo delicious! I mean…really!
Ok…now, I figured I’d be a negative critic with the mac & cheese, which actually was the Best mac & cheese outside of my mama’s kitchen! That’s right! I have to give props where they are due!
Next, my hubby made me taste the baked beans, which I am equally fussy about as my bbq…Again, I hate that “red sauce”, sweet brown sugar flavor or vinegary taste on my beans, and what did I get? The best baked beans EVER! I’m NOT kidding either!
I knew I couldn’t possibly like the potato salad, right? Wrong! The best potato salad outside of our home kitchen! Still, so NOT kidding!
To boot, they had just brewed a fresh batch of sweet iced tea! Oh Yeah…Even the server told us that it’s the best sweet tea in Dallas…I can believe that too! I refilled 3 times…LOL!
I’m so excited about this place, I CAN’T wait to eat there again!
Absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, THEE BEST BBQ IN DALLAS, TEXAS IS BAKER’S RIBS in Rowlett! Oh yeah…You’ll love me for this recommendation!
Not only did they have what I told you about, but so much more!
My baked potato was Texas-sized and I couldn’t even get close to eating 1/2 of it, and the scalloped potatoes – you guessed it…Amazing too!
Now, you may not live in Rowlett…heck, you may not even live in Texas…there’s only 1 location outside of Texas and that’s in Minneapolis, but they have 5 locations in Dallas, and 4 more locations around Texas too…Check them out here!
You have not eaten BBQ until you’ve had this BBQ!

How To Peel Small Onions Quickly & Easily
June 9, 2008 by Kimberly · 4 Comments
Whether they are small white onions, pearl onions, small red onions, shallots or any other type of small onion…and you need to peel a lot of them at one time…here’s the trick!
Boil a pot of water large enough to accommodate the amount of onions you are needing to peel. Once the water in the pot is boiling, put the onions in and boil for 1 min.
Then, strain them in a colander or fish them out with a hand-held strainer, and plunge them into very cold water.
When you rub the onion, the skin peels right off, and in fact, you can peel as many layers off of the onion you desire!
This tip works especially well when using a lot of onions in a recipe, such as canning or pickling onions!
* Special thanks to my good Stumble friend, melchazidek, for the great question!

Before You Drive, Take The Online Breathalyzer
June 6, 2008 by Kimberly · 3 Comments
My good stumble upon friend, zjs102, has an amazing website called SizzUp.com.
It is all about making the perfect alcoholic cocktails at home, and anything to do with that and partying…LOL
Joe often has some great little applications to play around with, and one of them is this Online Breathalyzer!
Provided you aren’t too drunk to use it, you can enter in your information, such as:
1. Age
2. Sex
3. Height
4. Weight
5. How many drinks you had
6. How long you were drinking for
7. Alcohol level
8. How much you consumed
…And Voila! It gives you your blood alcohol percentage, total alcohol ingested, alcohol remaining in your body, your body water, and a summary of how you probably feel.
If you’re too drunk to figure this thing out, get your friend to try, or just grab a Designated Driver if in doubt! You must need one if you’re in doubt…LOL…
Make sure you check out SizzUp.com for all of your cocktail and party needs!

Cooking is in the Air…
June 5, 2008 by Kimberly · Leave a Comment
I am always making friends online in the same niches I am in, and always looking at other blogs that are similar to mine…
I found one blog, LisaCooking.com, and it first caught my eye because my sister’s name is Lisa…LOL…
But when I got into the site, I found that Lisa had a lot of great ideas, some good reviews on products I haven’t tried or even seen before, and I love her Tip of the Day section…
She even has a contest and a safety section, which I don’t often see.
Anyway, just wanted to give her props here…Check her out online, if you’re in the neighborhood…LOL
