Want To Try Something New? Beer of the Month Club Anyone?
April 29, 2008 by Kimberly · 7 Comments
I used to be in a wine club, but since we’ve been in Canada, I’ve been a little lax with it…I used to love getting new wines and great picks every month…I had a storehouse of fabulous wines, with the information to pair them with meals, etc.
However, I was thinking that instead of joining a wine of the month club, this time I wanted to join a beer of the month club. I just need something a little bit different in my life right now…LOL…
Beers, like wines, go with many dishes, and are specific in flavor to certain flavors or spices you would want to pair them with…
I love cooking with beer, and include it in many of my recipes, especially my Southern cooking, soups, stews and marinades. However, I am game to start using it more, especially if I have a great variety with unique flavors from the beer of the month.
So, I actually found a cool site, GreatClubs.com when I searched for beer clubs in “stumble upon” and checked it out. It seems to give you a club for everything…wine, chocolate, fruit, coffee, even pizza…Really neat!
I have never heard of a fruit of the month club before…LOL…Cool!
I love these types of clubs because it is such a neat surprise to get home and there is your box of goodies for the month…So exciting! It is the gift that keeps on giving too…I often had a lot of wine stored, so I always had a quick and interesting gift for someone on short notice…LOL…
Anyway, check it out if you’ve been needing that “je ne sais quoi” in your life…

Food – It’s Not What You Eat, It’s Why You Eat…
April 11, 2008 by Kimberly · 3 Comments
I’ve been seeing a good trend in dieting programs as of late, and happened to “stumble upon” a site today about it…Since I love to cook and eat, I found this idea intriguing!
Well, on this site, www.ShrinkYourself.com, they have a Free Emotional Eating Profile…I wondered what that meant, so I delved further…
Basically, the premise is that it’s not necessarily the food you eat, it’s the reason why you eat that gives the trouble when trying to count your calories and diet.
As a foodie, when I try to watch my calories when I’m training hard, or trying to lose 5 lbs for a photo shoot, it’s not the food I’m eating, it’s my hectic schedule and my moods…
It is important to pay attention to the reasons why you eat, and correct those problems…not cut out EVERYTHING out of your diet!
For example:
I caught part of a program on TV the other night with my mother, and the host of this particular dieting show said it is important to partake in “conscious eating”…which means…when you eat the food, really pay attention to what you’re eating…enjoy it, take it all in slowly…
Most of the time, when watching a movie or TV especially, we are bored (a feeling/emotion) and are not really paying attention to the snacks we are eating…It’s easy to finish an entire bag of chips all by yourself if you don’t watch it…
…If you pay attention to each and every chip, meaning you can eat chips…yes, you’ll eat much less, and feel much more satisfied.
Also, you will feel less tormented since you can actually have some snacks, and you’re not concentrating all day on that bag of chips that you CANNOT have, right?
So, now that you’ve identified that you are possibly a person who eats when they are bored, you can change this habit…
This weight loss program focuses on the psychological side of dieting and consuming food. The Shrink Yourself method has been studied for 20 yrs now and founded by Dr. Roger Gould.
This website, ShrinkYourself.com, allows you to discover what your Emotional Eating Profile consists of…is it boredom, stress, depression that causes you to want to eat…
They believe it is not the lack of will power, but the circumstances in your life that make it difficult to diet. Now, by addressing the reasons for your habits, and changing them, will certainly lead to sustainable, long-term weight loss.
The site also has an Emotional Eating Center that provides free articles, interactive tools, tips, and a supportive, active community.
Well, it’s worth taking a look at, at least to determine what it is that makes you want to snack and eat…Pretty neat! Check it out:
